Seawind
In essence Seawind is two houses in one. The brief to Coy Yiontis Architects from the clients who have lived together for over fifty years has resulted in what they call ‘a perfect home for our third age’. With a clarity derived from knowing exactly how they intend to continue their lives together, the built expression of this intention is one of clearly delineated areas for each, with shared spaces for mutual relaxation.
We created two wings designed around the idiosyncrasies of the individuals, and just like them, the building forms echo each other yet stand in respectful contrast – hers clad in white steel and his in ‘monument’ dark grey. Positioned at the front of the flat site situated 150 metres from Balnarring Beach on the south-eastern Mornington Peninsula, these private sleeping, bathing and working wings frame the generous entry, boldly punctuated by a large pivot door in her favourite fuchsia.
